Regular screenings, self-care, and early intervention can significantly reduce the likelihood of serious foot problems for individuals with diabetes.<\/p>\n<h4>Who will benefit<\/h4>\n<p>Diabetic foot screenings should be done at least once a year, or more frequently if you are at risk of diabetic foot problems or complications.<\/p>\n<h4>How we do it<\/h4>\n<p>Our Podiatrists at Atlas Podiatry are experts in foot care and are trained to perform diabetic foot screening.\u00a0During your diabetic foot screening appointment, our Podiatrists will assess, educate and provide necessary treatments and interventions.<\/p>\n<h4>What to expect during the diabetic foot screening<\/h4>\n<p>1. \u00a0<strong>General assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical history taking \u2013 paying particular attention to any previous or ongoing foot problems<\/li>\n<li>Footwear inspection \u2013 to check on the type of footwear, its size and shape to determine if it\u2019s the right fit for your feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2. <strong>\u00a0Dermatological assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nails and skin inspection \u2013 to check for any abnormalities such as skin dryness, corns\/callus formation, cracks, wounds, fungal nail and skin infection, ingrown toenail etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3. \u00a0<strong>Musculoskeletal assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Foot shape and posture \u2013 to check for any foot structure abnormalities and deformities such as clawed\/hammertoes, flat or high-arched foot, bunions, charcot foot etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4.\u00a0 <strong>Neurological assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monofilament test \u2013 to check for any reduction\/loss of pressure perception<\/li>\n<li>Neurothesiometer test \u2013 to check for any reduction\/loss of vibration perception<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5. \u00a0<strong>Vascular assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Doppler ultrasound \u2013 to check if there is adequate blood flow to the feet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>6. \u00a0<strong>Patient education, treatment and follow up<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comprehensive foot care and foot wear education will be provided with every screening<\/li>\n<li>Foot problems identified during the screen will be addressed and treated appropriately<\/li>\n<li>Follow up appointments will be given according to patient\u2019s needs and risk classification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Our friendly podiatrists are here to help make sure you get the right foot care advice and treatment to prevent diabetic complications.
