What is Diabetes Foot Assessment?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

Diabetes is a major<\/strong> global health concern<\/strong>. In Singapore, there is an average<\/strong> of four <\/strong>lower extremity amputation<\/strong> (Lower Limb Amputation) per day<\/strong> in people with diabetes. About 3 out of 4 Lower Extremity Amputations are preceded<\/strong> by diabetic foot ulcers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

People who have diabetes<\/strong> will have a higher risk<\/strong> of developing foot ulcers. Such risk can be reduced<\/strong> through regular foot assessment.<\/p>\n

My foot looks good, do I still need to go through Diabetes Foot Assessment?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

Diabetes Foot Assessment can be conducted by a trained Podiatrist<\/strong> or Nurse<\/strong> working in collaboration<\/strong> with a Family Physician. It can help to identify<\/strong> and treat diabetic foot complications<\/strong> in a timely manner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

How often do I need to go for Diabetes Foot Assessment?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

In diabetic patients, foot assessment<\/strong> will be performed at least once a year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

More frequent foot assessments should be<\/strong> performed in patients who have a higher risk<\/strong><\/p>\n

of diabetes foot ulcers. Your Family Physician will help you to arrange<\/strong> for these assessments.<\/p>\n

What benefit will I get after the Diabetes Foot Assessment?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

3 out of 4 amputations could be avoided<\/strong> through regular foot assessments.<\/p>\n

During the foot assessment, patients will also benefit from an improved understanding<\/strong> of diabetic foot problems and the use of appropriate foot wear<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
