Hai Sia Seafood was cited as an example by Google for a local company that has embraced digital transformation:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

There are some companies that could have the perspective that because they\u2019ve been around for a long time, or that they\u2019re too small, or that they\u2019ve been successful for years, that there\u2019s no need for them to transform digitally or technologically. I would argue that\u2019s not the case. There\u2019s living proof right here in Singapore. Take Hai Sia Seafood, a Singapore fishmonger and family-run seafood supplier, which started in 1976 as a hawker stall and has been at Jurong Fishery Port the last few years.<\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/p>\n

This is a company where someone can understandably ask the question \u2013 how is tech going to make a difference? But it was able to triple its sales by applying digital marketing, whether it was through connecting with customers, advertising or providing digital interactions. They have a beautiful website now, and now you have to wait six months if you want to do a fish market tour. So I would argue for companies not to think that they are excluded from this ability to digitally transform. There isn\u2019t a company that\u2019s too small or too old.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

I have been there several times before but this is the first time we had a guide who brought us through the whole process. We also managed to take a peek at Hai Sia’s new processing facility where fish are scaled, sliced and filleted for the hawkers and restaurants. The tour is free and they conduct it once a month for the general public. I think it’s important to educate the younger generation of Singaporeans on our seafood industry. This will create an appreciation of different seafood available and get more people to visit the wet markets.
