Are Notarial Certificate and Apostille compulsory in Singapore?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Yes. Since 16 September 2021<\/strong>, all notarised documents in Singapore must be authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL)<\/strong> with an Apostille<\/strong>. A Notarial Certificate alone is not valid without this step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
How the process works:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
\u25ba Step 1 \u2013 Notary issues Notarial Certificate<\/strong>: Your Notary Public prepares the Notarial Certificate through SAL\u2019s online portal after the Notary or client pay the Apostille fee of $80 + GST <\/strong>to SAL. Without this payment, the Notary can only generate a draft<\/em> certificate, not the final engrossed version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25ba Step 2 \u2013 Binding of documents<\/strong>: The Notary binds the Notarial Certificate together with your notarised documents using the red ribbon and official seal<\/strong> as prescribed by SAL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u25ba Step 3 \u2013 SAL Apostille<\/strong>: You (or your representative) must then bring the bound notarised documents to SAL\u2019s Counter Service at The Adelphi<\/strong>. SAL will affix the Apostille sticker on the reverse of the Notarial Certificate. This confirms the Notary\u2019s signature and makes the document valid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u26a0\ufe0f Important:<\/strong> Some clients mistakenly think they do not need an Apostille. In reality, the Apostille is compulsory<\/strong> for every notarised document in Singapore. Without it, your document will not be legally recognised outside Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
