In 1972, the island was renamed Sentosa and was planned to be\u00a0a preferred\u00a0holidaymaker\u00a0destination.\u00a0It is now home to\u00a0a popular resort that receives\u00a0more than\u00a0twenty million\u00a0visitors per year. Attractions\u00a0embrace\u00a0a\u00a0two\u00a0metric linear unit\u00a0(1.2 mi) long\u00a0secure\u00a0beach, Fort Siloso,\u00a02\u00a0golf courses, the Merlion, 14 hotels,\u00a0and therefore the\u00a0Resorts World Sentosa,\u00a0which features\u00a0the Universal Studios Singapore\u00a0theme park and\u00a0one of\u00a0Singapore&#8217;s\u00a02\u00a0casinos.<br \/>\nThe name Sentosa\u00a0interprets\u00a0as &#8220;peace and tranquillity&#8221; in Malay,\u00a0that\u00a0was\u00a0successively\u00a0derived from the\u00a0Sanskritterm Santosha,\u00a0which means\u00a0&#8220;contentment, satisfaction&#8221;.
