The Malay word pasir panjang\u00a0virtually\u00a0suggests that &#8220;long sand&#8221;, a\u00a0relation to\u00a0the long sandy beach that stretched\u00a0along the coast\u00a0in this area.<br \/>\nPasir Panjang\u00a0is known as hong heng sua in Hokkien,\u00a0which means\u00a0&#8220;Hong Heng&#8217;s plantation&#8221;.<br \/>\nPasir Panjang Road,\u00a0which once hugged the Coastline, was\u00a0set\u00a0down as\u00a0far as the Jurong\u00a0River\u00a0by John Turnbull Thomson by 1850.
