When paint meets the stage! Watch this mesmerising performance take shape right in front of your eyes! We caught up for a Q&A with the stars.

"The
The Painters having fun with Action Painting.

Welcome to Singapore! We’re thrilled to have you guys here! What made you decide to bring the performance to Singapore?

We’ve been invited to Singapore once again since our first tour in 2011, when we were known as DRAWING: SHOW HERO. We have really great memories on our first tour with passionate audience in Singapore, so we are really happy to perform and meet the audience again.

The performance doesn’t involve dialogue, which eliminates problems of language barrier.

How did this idea come about? Does it have a basis in the Korean culture?

We wanted people from all over the world, regardless of age, to be able to enjoy our performance without any barriers or restrictions. Instead of using words, we use art and comedy to connect with our audience.

Basically, we have approached a new concept to communicate with various audiences around the world. This allows our audiences to fully immerse themselves in the performance and always be kept on their toes, not knowing what to expect next.

Where did the idea of The Painters: HERO come from?

For most people, art is regarded as a sophisticated hobby to be enjoyed only at an art museum or gallery. Art pieces are exquisite by themselves, but we feel that the process of creating art can also trigger people’s interest and present some heart touching moments. Therefore, we decided to conceptualise The Painters: HERO to make ‘art’ an interesting subject to approach.

The performance presents a new way of enjoying art by showcasing the process of making art live on stage through various art techniques with elements of dance, comedy and mime.

"The
The Painters engaged in Battle Drawing

While painting is practiced worldwide, what makes these acts stand out? How do they appeal to the international crowd?

The Painters: HERO aims to connect with the audience not only through the entire process of art making, but also through watching their all-time favourite heroes come alive. Audience participation is a significant part of the show, as we want the audience to be involved in the art making process, and not just as a bystander.

Furthermore, The Painters: HERO features exciting high-technology #D video projection mapping, being the first show in Korea that combines the actors and this unique technique together on stage. Certain elements of the show are tweaked for our performances in different countries to appeal to the different audiences.

How do you think Singaporeans, especially parents and kids, will respond to the performance?

Hopefully our audiences in Singapore will love The Painters: HERO as much as we love performing it! The Painters: HERO is great entertainment for both kids and the entire family alike with incredible visual effects filled with a witty blend of mime, dance and comedy right before your eyes.

We hope that our Singapore audiences will enjoy sharing the awe-inspiring journey of creating works of art together with our cast. We have prepared a special exclusive segment only for our show in Singapore, which we hope that our audiences will enjoy.

We can hardly wait to watch you guys in action! Are there any future performances/events we should keep a lookout for?

We’ll continue touring in China and participate in Korea Festivals abroad, but the best time to catch us will be none other than our upcoming shows in Singapore at Resorts World Theatre, Resorts World Sentosa, from 10-11 June 2016. Remember to mark the dates in your calendars and we can’t wait to see you guys there!
