However, new findings from Great Eastern\u2019s latest Long-Term Care Study show that long-term disability can affect people of all ages, creating emotional, physical and financial strain for families.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study found that 68% of Singaporeans would rather receive professional care at home than in an institution, driven by a strong desire to maintain independence, dignity and familiar surroundings. When asked what worried them most about disability, respondents pointed to becoming a burden to loved ones (80%), losing their independence and dignity (79%), and feeling socially isolated (66%).<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-fee9ca5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"fee9ca5\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-78e4da8\" data-id=\"78e4da8\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-193d79d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"193d79d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;We now recognise that long-term care is no longer solely about fulfilling medical needs. According to Great Eastern\u2019s claims data, 62% of GREAT CareShield claimants are below the age of 50, while close to three in ten disability claims are linked to injuries. Respondents estimated monthly home-care costs at around S$2,400, but Care@Homes puts the figure closer to S$3,500 \u2014 about 32% higher. This also exceeds the basic S$689 monthly payout from CareShield Life in 2026, highlighting the need for additional planning and protection.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For parents and caregivers, these findings are a timely reminder that long-term care planning should begin well before it becomes necessary. Beyond financial protection, families should also consider the practical support, caregiving resources and community networks that can help them navigate unexpected life events.
