Early Childhood Caries (ECC)
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry1,2, ECC is the “presence of one or more decayed (noncavitated or cavitated lesions), missing (due to caries), or filled tooth surfaces in any primary tooth in a child under the age of six years old.”

In Singapore alone, about 1 in 2 children in S'pore has tooth decay by kindergarten age. This is a 10% increase from a 2009 study, according to an article by The Straits Times.
