Documentary The Bonds of Art: Reviving the ‘Golden Age’ of Art Exchanges Between Singapore and China”

During her presentation, Audrey Zhang played a trailer for a documentary titled The Bonds of Art as a milestone progress report. This initiative garnered unanimous appreciation and encouragement from the audience. The trailer employed oral history techniques and documentary narrative to interview several Singaporean artists and art researchers, reminiscing about the “golden age” of art exchanges between Singapore and China during the 1980s and 1990s. Presented from their first-hand experiences, it vividly narrated heartwarming stories of friendship between the two countries.

Art’s Unifying Power: Audrey Zhang’s Reflection on the Enduring Bonds Between Singaporean Artists and China’s Cultural Heritage

Throughout the research and production of this project, Audrey Zhang was deeply moved by the genuine emotional connections the older generation of Singaporean artists have with China. She emphasised that in today’s complex and ever-changing geopolitical landscape, the power of art lies not only in its ability to evoke emotions but also in its capacity to inspire our aspirations and strength for the future. She hopes that through collective efforts, art can continue to be an indispensable bridge between Singapore and China, fostering more cultural exchanges and cooperation.
