Once you decided to go public with a domain name and to make your business presence online, you\u2019ll likely have to keep it for a long time.<\/p>\n

Some useful tips on choosing a good domain name as follows. These are based on best practice recommendations:<\/p>\n

  1. Choose a domain name that reflects your business.<\/li>\n
  2. Choose a domain name that can be a brand.<\/li>\n
  3. It must be easy to pronounce if you want it to be easily remembered.<\/li>\n
  4. ” .com ”\u00a0<\/em>OR ”\u00a0.com.sg<\/em>\u00a0” OR ” .sg ” are of good standard – always go with those if possible.<\/li>\n
  5. Make it as short as possible.<\/li>\n
  6. Don\u2019t use one that could infringe on other trademarks.<\/li>\n
  7. A domain name should ideally be related to your business – people should be able to quickly figure out what you do.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
    Step 2: Choosing a Domain name extension<\/h5>\n
    Below are the most standard extensions.<\/h6>\n

    1. ” .com “<\/strong>: If you intend to market your product with a worldwide reach you could opt for this option. A possible issue with ” .com ” extensions could be the availability of domain names, as they could have already been purchased OR used by some other company globally.<\/li>\n
    2. ” .sg “<\/strong>: This category is available to all with a valid Singapore postal address. A foreign applicant may apply for a domain name in this category if it appoints a local agent having a valid Singapore postal address as the Administrative Contact.<\/li>\n
    3. ” .com.sg “<\/strong>: Applicants registering for a ”\u00a0.com.sg ”\u00a0<\/em>will need to be either registered or in the midst of registering with the Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). A foreign company which has not registered may only apply for a ”\u00a0.com.sg<\/em> ” domain name if it appoints a local agent as the Administrative Contact. This local agent shall be a legal entity that is similarly registered by any of the organizations and duly authorized by the foreign company.<\/li>\n
    4. ” .org.sg “<\/strong>: Names under ”\u00a0.org.sg ”\u00a0<\/em>are only available to organizations that are either registered or in the midst of registering, with the Registry of Societies (ROS). Town councils, community centers, places of worship, embassies, and any other organizations not classified elsewhere could also apply for this extension.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
