At Bibik Violet, there’s one rule — everyone leaves full and happy.
Bibik Violet is inspired by the warmth and spirit of the Peranakan home kitchen, where rempah simmers on the stove, kopi is shared over long conversations, and comforting meals are lovingly prepared for family and friends.
In Peranakan culture, a Bibik is the aunty who runs the kitchen. She is the keeper of family recipes, guardian of the batu lesong — the stone mortar and pestle used to grind fresh spices and sambals — and often the heart of the home. Chef Violet Oon’s love for Peranakan cooking began at just 16 years old, learning alongside her aunts and Bibiks in the kitchen — pounding rempah, shaping kueh by hand, and cooking with instinct, generosity, and love. These were the little lessons that never made it into recipe books, but were passed down through shared meals, laughter, and time spent together around the table.
Over the years, Chef Violet carefully documented many of these treasured recipes and traditions, which continue to inspire the dishes and flavours at Bibik Violet today.
From kaya toast and kopi in the morning, to comforting bowls of Nyonya laksa, nasi lemak, prawn mee, nostalgic bakes, and colourful kuehs, Bibik Violet celebrates the familiar flavours of the Peranakan kitchen in a warm, lively, and welcoming setting. It’s the kind of place where there’s always something delicious on the table, someone asking if you’ve eaten yet, and every dish is made with a generous helping of love — the Bibik way.
