Differin (Adapalene) gel is a topical treatment for acne on the face, chest and back. Differin gel contains adapalene, a retinoid-like compound that possesses anti inflammatory properties, promote healthy skin turnover, and is clinically proven to reduce inflammatory components of acne (papules and pustules).

Can Differin be used as a spot treatment?

Differin is not meant to be a spot treatment and should not be used to treat a single pimple.

What precautions do I need to take when using Differin?

As Adapalene can make the skin more sun-sensitive while on it, sunscreen should be used during the day for sun protection.

Is Differin the same as retinol?

Differin consists of adapalene, which is a synthetic retinoid. Compared to traditional retinoids, adapalene causes less skin irritation in general as it selectively binds to specific skin cell receptors and has a lower penetration, staying mostly in the outer skin layers.
