The new Work Injury Compensation Act (\u201cWICA\u201d) 2019 will offer the following benefits to both employers and employees and will take effect from 1 September 2020 to allow employers and insurers time to adjust:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Influence companies to prevent injuries from happening in the first place<\/li>\n<li>Faster and simpler claims processes for everyone<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced protection for employees<\/li>\n<li>More certainty for employers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Implementation Timelines of the WICA Amendments<\/h3>\n<p>Related subsidiary legislation amendments are slated to take effect starting from January 2020. The changes shall be made progressively with the following implementation timelines of the WICA Amendments.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>WICA Schedule<\/strong><br \/>\nUpdate compensation limits to keep pace with wage growth and healthcare costs: <strong>1 January 2020<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>WICA Subsidiary Legislation <\/strong>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: lower-alpha;\">\n<li>Extend compulsory insurance to non-manual employees in non-factories and update the non-manual employees\u2019 monthly salary threshold from $1,600 to $2,100: <strong>1 April 2020<\/strong>; <em>and<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Update the non-manual employees\u2019 monthly salary threshold from $2,100 to $2,600: <strong>1 April 2021<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>WIC Bill 2019 <\/strong><br \/>\nWICA Subsidiary Legislations &#8211; Amendments such as reporting of any instance of medical leave or light duties, amendments to Workers\u2019 Fund, etc.: <strong>1 September 2020<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Employers are encouraged to have the Work Injury Compensation Insurance in place in order to have a complete coverage for WICA liabilities.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please refer to: <a title=\"New Work Injury Compensation Act 2019 for Faster Claims, Fairer Compensation and Fewer Injuries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mom.gov.sg\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2019\/0803-new-work-injury-compensation-act-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MOM web site<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updates on Singapore\u2019s Work Injury Compensation Act 2019 The Work Injury Compensation Bill 2019 was passed in Parliament on 3 September 2019.
