The agreement takes place between the Jakarta Flight Information Region (FIR) and Singapore FIR.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement was signed between Singapore and Indonesia in January. Under the agreement, Indonesia will be delegating provisions of its air navigation services to Singapore. This means that portions of Indonesia\u2019s airspace will be passed on to Singapore as per the realigned Jakarta FIR.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will stay in effect for a 25-year period. If at the end of that period, both parties believe it is mutually beneficial to extend the agreement, they will do so.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Singapore MFA Believes Agreement Is A Good Thing<\/h3>\n<p>Singapore\u2019s MFA believes that the FIR pact is a good thing. It will help to ensure that air control services are offered in a safe way. In the long run, Changi Airport will strengthen its position as an international air hub.<\/p>\n<p>The FIR agreement will support Singapore\u2019s air hub and help it to grow continuously. Especially in terms of competitiveness. It will also support other aviation-related sectors in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, Indonesia has made its desire to take control of the FIR above the Riau Islands known. This is a space that has been overseen by Singapore since 1946.
