Nur Sharinah is a student in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering specializing in Building Services. She joined AcePLP as part of SIT’s Integrated Work-Study Program. As part of\u00a0Singapore\u2019s Underground Masterplan<\/a>, the Urban Redevelopment Authority is working towards having a more complete 3D map of the\u00a0underground spaces and infrastructures in Singapore. Sharinah was involved in converting Singapore\u2019s MRT lines and road tunnels into a geographically\u00a0referenced virtual model.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Project Experience<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cIn this project, a team of us were hugely involved in modelling Singapore\u2019s island-wide MRT, the MCE, MRT stations and its structures and foundations. Through this project, I was exposed to valuable, real-life working experiences and the various opportunities that was given to me to explore my capabilities as a BIM Modeller. With this first-hand involvement, I learnt the perspective of a BIM Modeller and picked up skills as a BIM Coordinator and Manager from my seniors. \u00a0I must say that working for the LTA-BIM conversion project is the top of my list for being the most fulfilling yet challenging working experience I had working in the company. I am honoured to be part of this major project of LTA.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What were your biggest challenges?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cDespite the initial rough start to the project, it was one of the first biggest projects handled by the company. The team worked together to overcome obstacles, and with the support from the client and software developers, it greatly helped the team in achieving the desired results. Despite being new (to the job), I was able to make use of the knowledge attained from Year 1 and 2 back in school on the importance and benefits of implementing BIM.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How was what you learnt in school different from work?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cBack in school, we are taught mostly on the theoretical concepts such as the processes of BIM, modelling software and other mechanical engineering related courses. At AcePLP, the doors for learning are endless and always open for anyone who is willing to embark on the journey together with the company. Everyday was never dull for me as there are always new knowledge and skills to learn from. Starting from learning various softwares used in industry for the first two months. Then moving forward to being attached out to projects or companies.. Different experiences every single time.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cDespite facing rough situations, it is important to be able to see the positive learning outcomes so that one is able to learn and grow as a person. Other than that, being in the company has taught me to be confident in myself, improve on my leadership, management and communication skills to meet colleagues and clients.
