WHEN I announced my early retirement, some people congratulated me for being freed from the rat race. Others described it as an act of “bravery”.
To provide some context, I was a partner with a Big 4 accounting firm before I retired at the age of 50. It was a rewarding career, but also one that came with long hours, constant pressure and a lifestyle that could easily become all-consuming.
In that sense, perhaps it did take some courage to voluntarily unlock myself from the golden handcuffs.
