Women that live near the equator where UV exposure is higher are at a greater risk of developing melasma. Hormonal and genetic factors play a role in many cases.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is melasma caused?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not yet fully known exactly why melasma is caused. <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.cambridgemedical.com.sg\/profile-dr-lee\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1110\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Doctor<\/a>s believe that it could be due to melanocytes (cells responsible for skin tone) in the skin malfunctioning and over producing pigmentation. Hence, people who have a darker skin tone tend to have a higher chance of developing melasma as they naturally possess more melanocytes in their skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Potential triggers for melasma to occur include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Exposure to UV rays<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using of certain skin care products that irritate the skin or stimulate the melanocytes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hormonal changes brought about by pregnancy, hormone therapy or use of oral contraceptives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible for one to be genetically predisposed to developing melasma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Rosacea?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rosacea, on the other hand, is when your face becomes red and vascular, with blood vessels becoming visible under the skin. Sometimes, it also comes with small, pus-filled bumps on the surface of the skin. These symptoms might flare up and disappear periodically. Rosacea is commonly mistaken for acne or other skin conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rosacea might affect people of all ages and skin types. However, rosacea is most common in light-skinned middle-aged women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is the Yellow Laser suitable for melasma &amp; rosacea treatment?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to its unique wavelength, the Yellow laser is instantly absorbed into the melanin (pigments) causing the melasma and, at the very same time, is absorbed into the surrounding blood vessels. This reduces the blood supply to skin cells which are responsible. This greatly reduces the chance that these cells can produce pigments and ensures longer-lasting results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How is the Yellow Laser treatment done?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the inclusion of preparation time, each treatment session will last around 45 minutes. This treatment is generally well tolerated and is quite mild. Often, patients don\u2019t even need the application of a topical numbing cream. The laser has been said to give a mild prickling sensation. Patients with a lower pain tolerance can be given a topical anaesthetic cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At times, other lasers such as Pico Laser and the 4D Laser can be used in combination in a multi-prong approach to treating difficult melasma cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I require multiple treatments?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, for most cases of rosacea and melasma, you will require anywhere between 4-6 treatments with around 3 weeks rest period between each treatment session for the condition to fully clear up.
