Dark areas occur when pigment cells (called melanocytes) in the skin multiply at an accelerated rate. Usually, this darkening is due to a skin condition called acanthosis nigricans (AN)<\/strong>, where the skin thickens and turns a darker hue in folds around the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other common causes that could lead to darker armpits are:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Although rare, dark underarms could also be a sign of a more serious underlying health condition. In these cases, you should consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis if you have other additional signs and symptoms. This could be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Type 2 diabetes<\/li>
    • Hormonal imbalance<\/li>
    • Certain medication<\/li>

      Are There Home Remedies For Dark Underarms?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      There are a variety of do-it-yourself home remedies that help even out the skin tone of your underarms. Many of these ingredients can easily be found at home or your nearest supermarket \u2014 turmeric, sugar, honey and lemon, which have lightening and exfoliating properties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It is, however, important to note that one should be cautious about the ingredients you use, as they may lead to further irritation and thickening of your skin. They should also be used in moderation to prevent over-exfoliation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      One can also try preventing dark armpits by avoiding irritation and use natural deodorants that are free from irritants such as aluminium and alcohols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
