Planning a company event in Singapore? Then you probably already know how it goes.

First, there’s the venue. Then the food, guest list, programme, lucky draw, speeches and all the other small things that somehow become very big things two weeks before the event.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, someone will ask, “So, what are we doing for entertainment?”

It’s a fair question.

A good event should have something that gets people out of work mode for a while. You don’t need anything elaborate to create an enjoyable experience for your guests. Sometimes a simple performance is enough to get people laughing and talking.

A company networking session in a hotel meeting room isn’t going to need the same entertainment as a big annual dinner at a ballroom.

For networking events, I’d go for something that doesn’t force everyone to stop what they’re doing.

This is where a corporate event magician can work quite well. The magician can move around the room and perform for small groups while people are having drinks and chatting.

It gives guests something to talk about without making the event feel like a formal presentation.

Singapore corporate events are usually packed with schedules.

But even the best planning can’t stop those little gaps from happening.

Maybe the guests have finished their drinks but dinner isn’t ready yet. Or the CEO is still backstage getting ready for the next speech. Maybe the awards team needs another ten minutes.

Instead of having everyone stare at the stage, you can have some entertainment happening around the room.

Close-up magic is useful for exactly this kind of situation. It’s short, personal and doesn’t need a big setup.

For a company dinner, D&D or awards night, you might want everyone to sit down and enjoy the same performance.

That’s when a magic show Singapore companies can book for a larger audience becomes interesting.

A stage performance gives the event a proper highlight. After a few speeches and maybe a lucky draw, having something completely different can wake the room up again.

And let’s be honest, after sitting through several presentations, people probably won’t complain about watching something they actually don’t know how is going to end.

This is one thing I would check before booking.

Corporate audiences can be a mixed bunch. You might have your management team sitting in front, clients at one table, new staff at another and colleagues who are more than happy to volunteer for something.

A corporate event magician needs to be comfortable with that.

If you’re searching for a magic show Singapore companies can use for a corporate event, don’t just look at how impressive the tricks are. Watch some videos and see how the performer talks to people.

The personality matters quite a bit.

If magic sounds like something your event could use, Ryan Goh Magic is one Singapore performer you could look at.

He offers both close-up magic and stage performances, so there are different options depending on the type of event you’re organising.

Of course, I wouldn’t say you should book any performer without doing a bit of homework.

Have a look at their videos, check reviews and ask what they recommend for your venue and number of guests. A stage show for 50 people is going to feel very different from one for 500.

One mistake companies can make is trying to squeeze too much into one evening.

You don’t need a band, comedian, magician, games host and three other acts just because there is space in the programme.

Your guests still want to eat, catch up with colleagues and talk business if it’s a networking event.

Sometimes one good corporate event magician during cocktails is enough. For a bigger dinner, a full magic show Singapore audiences can enjoy together might be the better choice.

The main thing is to pick something that suits the event.

After all, people may not remember exactly what was served for dessert. But they’ll probably remember the colleague who volunteered for a magic trick and somehow ended up with a signed card inside a sealed box.

That’s the kind of thing that gives a company event a bit of personality.

Planning a company event in Singapore?
