Recognising and writing Chinese characters, grasping grammar and sentence structure, and understanding phonetics form part of early literacy development. These same skills help prepare them for formal reading and writing instruction in primary school.

Circle Time

During Circle Time, teachers and children use Chinese to convey thoughts and ideas with one another through an ongoing facilitated conversation. The activity aims to improve proficiency in Chinese listening and speaking, as well as presentation skills and confidence.

Storytelling

Our teachers use props and puppets to breathe life into stories told in Chinese. These sessions introduce students to new words and improve their listening comprehension skills. Storytelling also helps to develop a greater appreciation for language and literature.

Word games involve recognising new words through character recognition, speaking, and application. As preschoolers play along, they gain an expanded vocabulary along with the knowledge of how to use the words they’ve learnt.

Role-Playing Drama

As preschoolers take on character roles in role-play stories facilitated by teachers, they are encouraged to apply learned keywords and express themselves in Chinese. Dylan does not speak Mandarin initially but after attending EduGrove’s lessons for three months, he began to speak to us in Mandarin and started reading Chinese books. It has gradually built his confidence in writing and he is happy about going to school. Teacher Liu knows the importance of cooperation between parents and she makes an effort to let parents understand the subjects taught on the day after class. I would like to thank Teacher Liu for her care and guidance for the students.
