The aircon is running, but the bedroom still feels warm. Before assuming it needs a gas top-up, check the cooling mode, temperature setting and airflow.<\/p>\n

If your aircon is not cold, the settings, a dirty filter or an open window may be part of the problem. Warm air alone won\u2019t tell you which part, if any, has failed.<\/p>\n

Use the table below to choose the checks that fit your symptoms. Stop if you notice leaking water, ice or an electrical warning, and leave internal components to a qualified service provider.<\/p>\n

What you’ll need for the checks<\/h3>\n

Have the remote control, the model’s operating manual and a place to record what you notice. You won’t need refrigerant tools or access to internal wiring.<\/p>\n

Check what you can reach safely. If you can’t access the filter securely or find the power-isolation instructions, leave that part to a service provider.<\/p>\n

Check the mode, temperature and room first<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1. Make sure the unit is in cooling mode<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Check the display against your remote-control manual. Fan mode moves air without providing cooling. Dry mode has a different purpose, so don’t assume it will behave like Cool mode.<\/p>\n

Select Cool mode and a temperature below the current room temperature. Check whether a timer or operating setting is changing the unit’s behaviour.<\/p>\n

2. Check whether the room is losing cooled air<\/h4>\n

Close the windows and doors to the area you’re cooling. If a bedroom door opens into an uncooled hallway, the aircon may be working against a larger space than you expect.

Only handle a filter that your manual describes as user-accessible. Switch off and isolate power using the manufacturer’s instructions before opening the cover.<\/p>\n

Read the care instructions before washing anything. A washable mesh filter and a separate deodorising insert can need different treatment. Never spray water into the mounted unit.<\/p>\n

If airflow stays weak after the filter has been properly cleaned, arrange a check. Washing it again won’t fix a fault elsewhere in the unit.<\/p>\n

Check the normal operating settings for each affected room. Record which units were running at the same time and whether the problem began suddenly.<\/p>\n

When should you stop troubleshooting?<\/h3>\n

Arrange an assessment if you see ice, recurring indoor leakage, persistent errors or cooling that doesn’t improve after the appropriate basic checks.

If there’s smoke, a burning smell or water near electrical parts, keep clear and stop using the unit. Isolate power only if you can do so safely. Don’t keep resetting a tripping breaker.<\/p>\n

Does an aircon that isn’t cold need a gas top-up?<\/h3>\n

Not automatically. Settings, airflow and room conditions can also affect cooling.<\/p>\n

Mitsubishi Electric Singapore<\/a> explains that low refrigerant can result from an installation undercharge or a leak. Where there’s a leak, adding refrigerant alone doesn’t solve the problem; the leak needs locating and repairing.<\/p>\n
