Awareness of Macular Diseases Week 2026

Organised by the Department of Ophthalmology, National University Hospital (NUH), Awareness of Macular Diseases Week 2026 is a public outreach initiative aimed at promoting early detection, awareness, and timely treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other sight-threatening macular conditions.

Taking place on 26 September 2026, the programme features a multilingual public webinar conducted in English, Mandarin, and Malay, where ophthalmology specialists will share insights on AMD, including the role of intravitreal injections, common misconceptions surrounding treatment, and the importance of seeking medical care early to preserve vision.

In addition, members of the public aged 50 years and above may participate in a public eye screening programme at the NUH Medical Centre, Level 17A, Eye Surgery Centre. The screening initiative aims to identify individuals at risk of eye diseases and encourage timely referral and intervention before significant vision loss occurs.

Through education, community engagement, and preventive screening, Awareness of Macular Diseases Week 2026 seeks to empower individuals to take proactive steps towards maintaining eye health and reducing the impact of preventable vision impairment in the community.
