In Indonesia, one of the most populous Muslim countries in the world, hijabs are a common sight. Muslim women don a headscarf as an expression of their faith and modesty; while some do so to fulfil religious and family obligations, others see it as a choice that brings comfort and liberation. Inspired by Husna\u2019s own complex relationship with the hijab,\u00a0 Hijab\/I<\/em> explores how queer individuals negotiate the intersection of culture, gender and religion through clothing. Through her photographs and notes, the work shows how one\u2019s attire can be a deeply personal expression of identity and belonging.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

About the artist<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Husna is an emerging photographer based in Indonesia who specializes in photojournalism and documentaries. Her narratives in photo projects often focus on identity, community, and liberation. Her works were featured at the Jakarta International Photo Festival (2023) and Southeast Asian Queer Cultural Festival (2024). She is part of the VII Community by VII Photo and has participated in the Youth Voices: Democracy Today Workshop and Grants by Panna Foto Institute (2023).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Ezra Acayan<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>(b. 1993) is a photojournalist based in the Philippines with over a decade of experience covering politics, climate change, and social injustice. Driven by a deep commitment to bearing witness, he strives to document images that stand as both evidence and a reflection of society\u2019s conscience.<\/p>

He is a two-time World Press Photo awardee, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and was named Photographer of the Year at the inaugural Pictures of the Year Asia. He is also an alumnus of the Ian Parry Scholarship and a recipient of multiple honors from POYi, the National Press Photographers Association, the Society of Publishers Asia, and the Human Rights Press Awards.<\/p>

He has done work for Getty Images, The New York Times, TIME, Reuters, and Agence France-Presse, and his work has appeared in every major publication worldwide. Locally, his work is regularly exhibited in galleries, churches, and universities.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
