This project brings together text by Yvonne Tham and the works of 15 artists as a response to our present chaos, exploring ideas of utopia in nature and the city. In such times, is the ancient way of the recluse an irresponsible romance? Where can one find home – in nature, cities, and our bodies. These questions are framed by two texts: a loose translation of Tao Yuan Ming’s famous 5th century “Records of a Peach Blossom Spring”, as well as a series of imagined conversations titled “Fragments” between Tao Yuan Ming and fellow recluse.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The artists featured are Adeline Tan, Aparna Nori, Catherine Lim-Ball, Farizwan Fajari (Speak Cryptic), Jean Low, Jeanette Adrienne Wee, Jovian Lim, Kevin WY Lee, Mary Bernadette Lee, Ng Hui Hsien, Rebecca Toh, Tan Pin Pin, Tan Zixi, Theseus Chan and Zhou JJ.<\/span><\/p>

An artbook of the same title will be available for sale. Sale proceeds from the first 200 copies go towards supporting “Project 12”, an eco-social art initiative at Pulau Ubin.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

About the Curator<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Yvonne Tham<\/strong><\/span> has worked in the cultural sector as a policy maker and arts manager in the last 25 years. Outside of her day job, she writes, draws and makes art projects under the moniker ampulets, often in collaboration with designers, artists and other creatives. Her recent projects and publications include “A Day to Wake Up to” (2021, 2025), “A Year Made Object” (2022), “A House in the Forest” (2024) and “Seventy Times Seven” (2025).<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

About the Artists<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Adeline Tan \/ Mightyellow <\/b><\/a><\/span>is an illustrator and visual artist based in Singapore. She takes inspiration from her surroundings and popular culture, and often juxtaposing these inspirations with her personal experiences and past memories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Aparna Nori<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0is a lens based artist based between Singapore and India. Her art practice draws from lived experiences with a particular interest in themes of personal memory and identity. Her response is articulated through a range of mediums including photography, alternative photographic processes, video art and the book form.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Catherine Lim-Ball <\/b><\/span>is a Singapore-based artist with a background in ink painting and a particular interest in landscapes. Earlier works, including Silent White and \u53d6\u666f, explored landscape through ink before her Master of Fine Arts studies at NAFA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Farizwan Fajari \/ Speak Cryptic <\/b><\/a><\/span>is an artist, musician and educator currently based in Singapore. Inspired by the visual language prevalent within alternative subcultures such as punk and skateboarding, and utilising personal iconographies and a cast of characters that he has developed since 2005, his works create narratives that speak to current affairs and his immediate environment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Jean Low<\/b><\/a>\u2019s<\/b><\/u><\/span> practice is rooted in the gathering, transforming, and reimagining of materials that are abundant but overlooked, or discarded. Her particular interest is in the knowledge, labour, and possibilities held within everyday acts of making.<\/span>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>

Jeanette Adrienne Wee<\/b><\/a><\/span> is an artist and educator based in Singapore whose work moves fluidly between form and feeling, exploring vessels and sculptural pieces shaped by themes of balance and chaos. A long-time mentee of master potter Dr. Iskandar Jalil, she now continues to develop works of her own and has taken part in several group and solo shows.\u00a0<\/p>

Jovian Lim<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(b. 1984, Singapore) is a photographer whose practice explores the quiet poetry of spaces, objects, light and materiality. Working across architectural, hospitality, still_life and personal photography, Jovian approaches the everyday with a sensitivity that balances realism and romance.<\/span><\/p>

Kevin WY Lee<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is a photographer and creative director born in Fiji and based in Singapore. Kevin\u2019s photography practice explores Singapore \u2013 her temperament, aesthetic\u202fand growing pains. A broader canvas is marked by a curiosity in mortality, and how people cope with the finiteness of being mortal.\u202f\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Mary Bernadette Lee<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is based in Singapore as an artist, educator, illustrator, co-creator, observer & collector of information & experiences through collaborations with communities. Since 2014, her artistic practice takes the phenomenological approach investigating relationships between body, architecture and space, and psychological states relating to Self, Identity and Home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Ng Hui Hsien<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u202fworks as an artist, educator, and curator. Through her artworks, she seeks to evoke stillness and wonder, especially towards our inner landscapes and the more-than-human world. Her work is informed by phenomenology, one that sees our bodies as sites of knowledge and one curious about our relations with the living earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Rebecca Toh<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(b. 1986) is a photographer working globally. Her work is heavily influenced by music, literature and film. In her personal work, she enjoys exploring beneath the surface of ordinary life in order to reveal its dream-like nature and deeper psychological meanings. Sometimes, her work also travels somewhere between dream and reality.<\/span><\/p>

Tan Pinpin <\/b><\/a><\/span>is a leading Singapore filmmaker and artist whose practice spans film, photography, and installation. Her works investigate the construction of memory, history and national identity, and challenge conventional narratives and forms as well as modes of distribution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Tan Zixi \/ MessyMsxi<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is a Singapore-based, London-trained artist. She adopted the moniker \u2018MessyMsxi\u2019 while studying at Central Saint Martins when classmates struggled to pronounce her Chinese name. Beyond its memorable, alliterative ring, the name captures her belief that the creative process is inherently messy and that the truest works spring from moments of raw spontaneity.<\/span><\/p>

Theseus Chan<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is a Singaporean artist and printed matter designer whose practice moves between image-making, publishing and material experimentation. Founder of WORK and WERK Magazine, he approaches making as a process of discovery, allowing materials, chance, repetition and the imperfections of production to shape the work.<\/span><\/p>

Zhou Jia Jun<\/b><\/span>\u00a0works primarily with Chinese ink, charcoal, and pastel. In this series, she draws inspiration from the foundational elements of Chinese landscape paintings, using trees and rocks as compositional building blocks. The drawings look at the relationship between living and inert matter: the way trees bend around stone and concrete, and how humans respond to their environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
