In Rhetorical Territories<\/strong>, photographer Tom White memorably captures how this coexistence takes place at every moment through subtle acts of “negotiation” rather than government policy.<\/p>\n

The book also documents the responses of 40 viewers from all walks of life. Their thoughts offer us a fascinating look at private vs public space, cultural belonging, and the meaning of home in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Alfian bin Sa’at<\/strong> contributes a set of haikus inspired by Tom White’s photographs. Writer, poet, and resident playwright at theatre group WILD RICE, Alfian has written many award-winning literary and stage works.<\/p>\n

About Tom White<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tom White <\/b>(Singapore-based, Yorkshire-born) is an independent photographer working in documentary, journalism, and editorial photography. He also conducts workshops at Singapore’s Objectifs Centre for Film and Photography and teaches documentary arts and photojournalism at Yale-NUS College. He has previously taught at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and International Center of Photography. His work has been published and exhibited internationally. Tom is a graduate of Goldsmiths (University of London) and the International Center of Photography in New York<\/p>\n

About Exactly Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Exactly Foundation<\/strong><\/a> is a not-for-profit, trademarked registered label established by Li Li Chung to commission photographers to create works that stimulate discussion of social concerns in Singapore.
