Electric vehicles have come a long way from when they were introduced in the market. However, it can be stressful to know how low your battery charge can go, and nobody wants to end up stranded at the side of the road with a flat battery. However, it\u2019s easy to get extra kms from a charge. Here we list 5 ways to extend your electric vehicle\u2019s<\/a> (EV) battery in Singapore.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Drive consistently\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

Heavy-footed driving will deplete your EV\u2019s battery at a faster rate. Although it\u2019s always tempting to test out your EV, your charge will go further when you accelerate slowly and consistently from a standing start.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Keep to the speed limit<\/b><\/h2>\n

If you are driving your EV for a long distance or your drivers are, keep your speed consistent. The faster you go, the more power you will use from the battery to maintain that speed.<\/span><\/p>\n

100km per hour is the pace where most EVs can maintain the balance of conserving power while keeping speed. Any speed faster than this will see the range level decrease faster than desired. If your EV in Singapore has an \u201cEco\u201d mode, switch this on to increase the amount of energy that is ‘regenerated’ as the car slows or brakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Utilise regenerative braking\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

When driving your EV, use your EV\u2019s energy-recovering regenerative braking option as you come to a stop. Regenerative braking is when the vehicle takes energy from the process of slowing down and using it to recharge the vehicle\u2019s battery. Utilise your vehicle\u2019s maximum regenerative setting to generate extra power back to the vehicle\u2019s battery when you take your foot off the accelerator.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Be smart with your air-conditioning<\/b><\/h2>\n

The weather can get pretty hot in Singapore and we are all used to blasting our air conditioning system in the vehicles. When using an EV, using the air conditioning can consume a lot of battery power at a fast rate. When possible, try to just use the fan instead of the air-conditioning system. You can also pre-cool the EV while it\u2019s charging to help reduce the need to run the AC once you drive away.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Plan your trip<\/b><\/h2>\n

It could take you less time getting to your destination by driving on the motorway, but you could maximize your EV\u2019s range by keeping to a route that allows you to drive steadily at consistent speeds. Try keeping away from areas known for heavy traffic. Some EVs in Singapore have navigation systems that can plot the best energy efficient routes.
