In general, custody can be either joint or sole. Sole Custody Order:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It gives one parent the <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.lawyer-singapore.com.sg\/articles\/going-through-child-custody-trial-during-divorce.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">care and control of the child<\/a>, while the other parent has access rights. This is usually granted when there are special circumstances, such as domestic violence. The court may also award a sole custody order if the parents are unable to agree on who should have care and control of the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This order is frequently given when a couple&#8217;s relationship has deteriorated to the point that they are bitterly opposed to each other and communication has irreversibly broken down. Counseling and mediation have been tried and failed as means of reconciling their differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Joint_Custody_Order\"><\/span>2. Joint Custody Order:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It gives both parents an equal say in the important decisions regarding the child&#8217;s welfare, such as education and medical treatment. The child will live with one parent, while the other parent has access rights. This arrangement can be made on a temporary or permanent basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A joint custody order is only granted if the parents can cooperate and communicate with each other reasonably well. The court may also consider the wishes of the child before making a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Hybrid_Orders\"><\/span>3. Hybrid Orders:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under this order, one parent has sole custody of the child while the other parent has certain specified rights and duties. For example, the non-custodial parent may have the right to be consulted on major decisions regarding the child&#8217;s welfare, or the right to receive regular updates on the child&#8217;s progress in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main difference between Hybrid and sole custody orders is that the non-custodial parent still has some involvement in the child&#8217;s life, even though they do not have care and control of the child. This means that they can still have a meaningful relationship with the child, which is important for the child&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Split_Custody_Orders\"><\/span>4. Split Custody Orders:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is an arrangement where each parent has custody of one or more of the couple&#8217;s children. This arrangement is usually only made in cases where there are multiple children from the marriage, and it is not possible or practical for one parent to have custody of all the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main advantage of a split custody arrangement is that it allows each child to have a close relationship with both parents. The Wishes of the Child<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before deciding on custody, the Court will consider the wishes of the child. The child&#8217;s views will be given greater weight if he or she is older and can express a reasoned preference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_The_Relationship_between_the_Child_and_each_Parent\"><\/span>2. The Relationship between the Child and each Parent<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, the Court will take into account which parent has been the child&#8217;s primary caregiver. The Court will also consider which parent the child is closer to and whether there is any history of abuse or violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_The_Ability_of_each_Parent_to_Care_for_the_Child\"><\/span>3. The Ability of each Parent to Care for the Child<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Court will consider each parent&#8217;s financial situation, employment status, mental and physical health, and accommodation. The Court will also take into account the child&#8217;s needs, such as any special educational or medical needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_The_welfare_and_well-being_of_the_Child\"><\/span>4. The welfare and well-being of the Child<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Court&#8217;s main concern is the child&#8217;s welfare and well-being.
