Once both parties have submitted the initial documents, the court schedules the TJCC.<\/p>\n<p>It is conducted when the case is contested, that is, when the parties do not fully agree on issues such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.singaporedivorcelawyer.com.sg\/category\/grounds-for-divorce\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>grounds for divorce<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.singaporedivorcelawyer.com.sg\/child-custody-access-and-the-welfare-principle\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>child custody and access<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.gjclaw.com.sg\/articles\/child-support-and-spousal-maintenance-orders-in-singapore-what-you-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>spousal or child maintenance<\/strong><\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.gjclaw.com.sg\/areas-of-practice\/family-law\/division-of-assets\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>division of matrimonial assets<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At this stage, the court convenes the TJCC to establish a tone of cooperation and problem-solving before the matter proceeds further.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"blogpost\">During the Therapeutic Justice Cooperative Conference (TJCC)<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Tone and conduct<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"blogpost\">\n<li>The judge will explain what is expected: cooperation, respect, and focus on long-term solutions.<\/li>\n<li>The Court expects parents to prioritise their children\u2019s needs and for parties to avoid unnecessary disputes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Discussion of key issues<\/h3>\n<p>The judge will go through the main matters to be resolved, such as the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"blogpost\">\n<li>Grounds for divorce (how to frame them in the least contentious way);<\/li>\n<li>Custody, care and control, and access arrangements for children;<\/li>\n<li>Children\u2019s maintenance (schooling, monthly expenses, special needs);<\/li>\n<li>Spousal maintenance; and<\/li>\n<li>Division of matrimonial assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Support services<\/h3>\n<p>The judge may refer the family to counselling or other support. Since there are children under 21, <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.singaporedivorcelawyer.com.sg\/what-is-mediation\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>mediation would be mandatory<\/strong><\/a>. However, if the youngest is above 14 years old, the court exercises discretion as to whether counselling should be ordered.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Next steps<\/h3>\n<p>The judge will set the date for the next court event i.e.,<em>mediation<\/em>. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"blogpost\">After the Therapeutic Justice Cooperative Conference (TJCC)<\/h2>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Counselling<\/h3>\n<p>Follow-up counselling may be scheduled. This is private to the parties (<em>lawyers are not present<\/em>). The focus is on <a href=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.singaporedivorcelawyer.com.sg\/mandatory-co-parenting-programme-cpp-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>co-parenting<\/strong><\/a> and reaching consensus.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"blogpost\">Mediation<\/h3>\n<p>If issues remain unsettled, mediation will take place.
