This process was introduced under the <strong>Family Justice Reform Act 2023<\/strong> to strengthen how unpaid maintenance is addressed in Singapore.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"blogpost\">Key Features of the MEP<\/h2>\n<p>The MEP is designed to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"blogpost\">\n<li>Discourage non-payment of maintenance;<\/li>\n<li>Make enforcement more straightforward when arrears occur;<\/li>\n<li>Support fair and sustainable outcomes for families; and<\/li>\n<li>Improve access to justice, especially for those representing themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Instead of the older mediation model, cases are now handled through conciliation led by <strong>Maintenance Enforcement Officers<\/strong> (<em>MEOs<\/em>). Applicants may file these enforcement applications directly with the <strong>Family Justice Courts<\/strong> or through authorised agencies.
