A moment spent meditating stills my mind and centres me before the craziness of the day begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01C.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"974\" height=\"487\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">8 a.m. Makan Sutra<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>I make up a recipe for cabbage soup, using a lot of different vegetables and spicing it up with chillies, turmeric and oregano \u2013 it\u2019s quite yummy, and this vat of cabbage soup will last me for three days. I\u00a0<em>love<\/em>\u00a0to eat but need to shed the six kilos I put on over Chinese New Year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01D.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">9 a.m. Don\u2019t Sweat The Small Stuff<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><em>La Cage<\/em>\u00a0is a marathon, and each scene is a sprint \u2013 often in high heels! I hit the gym to stretch and build strength and stamina. I\u2019ve taken to singing on the elliptical machine to prepare for my big songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01E.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">10.30 a.m. Sing, Sing A Song!<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0I\u2019m not a trained singer, so it\u2019s quite terrifying for me to carry a musical like\u00a0<em>La Cage<\/em>. Since January, I\u2019ve been working with my vocal coach, John Lee, who\u2019s helped me with my technique. I\u2019m beginning to feel more free and better able to enjoy the music \u2013 to play with it and tell a story through song. Here I am in vocal rehearsals with our amazing music director, Elaine Chan!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01F.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">1.30 p.m. Best Foot Forward<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Walking in heels is the most unnatural thing any human being can do, but Zaza \u2013 my character \u2013 wears them. And thus, so must I! I check in with my podiatrist during my lunch break, bringing my heels along for good measure. She\u2019s plastered KT tape to my foot to help ease the pain of bunions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01A.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"973\" height=\"644\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">2.30 pm Let\u2019s Face The Music And Dance!<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Time for dance rehearsal with the Cagelles! I trained to be a dancer before university and it\u2019s been wonderful for me to revisit this aspect of performing. Lisa Keegan, our choreographer, has really pushed the boundaries in terms of telling stories through her work. I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve really seen the likes of it in Singapore theatre!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01H.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"973\" height=\"649\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">4 p.m. Setting The Scene<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0After dance rehearsals, it\u2019s time for scene work! Sean Ghazi is a very sensitive and intelligent actor, and we play an \u2018old unmarried couple\u2019, who have been through lots of ups and downs over the course of their 25-year relationship. Under director Glen Goei\u2019s watchful eye, it\u2019s been thrilling to discover the chemistry and dynamic between our characters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01I.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"972\" height=\"972\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">6.15 p.m. Image Conscious<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The W!LD RICE marketing team grabs me for 15 minutes after rehearsals end to finalise the publicity images for\u00a0<em>Boeing Boeing<\/em>, our next production. We have a season planned well into 2019. While the work is relentless, it\u2019s also fun and rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01J.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"973\" height=\"973\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">8 p.m. A Little Night Music<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0After a full day of making theatre, we head over to the Esplanade to support Elaine in her first solo concert. Elaine\u2019s composed and orchestrated so much beautiful music for W!LD RICE and Singapore theatre \u2013 it\u2019s a genuine joy and privilege to be part of her captive audience, celebrating her moment in the spotlight as a musician and composer. Bravo, Elaine!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/newsletter\/NL42\/01K.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"973\" height=\"973\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#ff0200\" class=\"has-inline-color\">11.30 p.m. Calling It A Day!<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0My script is the last thing I read at night \u2013 I\u2019ve found that helps the words to stay with me in the days to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, I unwind from the hectic day I\u2019ve had with a good whiskey!
