Each of our RICE BALLS looks and feels like a breezy, charming, effortless affair \u2013 high on enjoyment and entertainment value. That\u2019s how it\u2019s meant to be, of course. But a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to put the entire event together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe challenge the committee faces every year is how to out-do ourselves to produce an even better gala next year!\u201d noted Kitch Lum, our champion organiser since 2002, before this year\u2019s (Very) Royal Ball.\u00a0[Read our full interview with Kitch\u00a0here<\/a><\/em>.]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the months leading up to the twelth edition of our annual fundraising event on 4 October 2013, the members of our incredibly devoted organising committee sorted out menus, invitations and items for the show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They sampled delicious dishes prepared for our guests by Colin Buchan, Head Chef of the Michelin-starred restaurant Pollen\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rehearsed long and hard to ensure that the night\u2019s revelries would go off without a hitch\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decorated Shangri-La Hotel\u2019s Island Ballroom in lavish, gorgeous style\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And pulled off a night of glitz and glamour, designed especially for all the generous souls who made the (Very) Royal Ball our most successful ball to date!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We could not have pulled it all together without the kind support of our presenting sponsor Hublot, which was represented on the night by Jean-Claude Biver, the Chairman of the company\u2019s administrative board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of the night, the silent auction for the King Power Royale had fetched S$43,000 from a generous benefactor who prefers to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hublot’s timepieces were paired with design maestro Frederick Lee’s haute couture<\/em> creations in a dazzling runway show, which kicked off the evening’s programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by veteran performer Pam Oei, the Royal Command Variety Performance featured exhilarating numbers starring Ivan Heng, Hossan Leong, Matilda d’Silva, and nine-year-old Lauren Yeo, whose performance of O Mio Babbino Caro<\/em> received a standing ovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests at the Ball enjoyed a sumptuous five-course dinner prepared especially by Colin Buchan, in collaboration with Shangri-La Hotel\u2019s Executive Chef.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe’re enormously thrilled with the success we’ve had with The (Very) Royal Ball, the proceeds of which will go towards funding our work in the coming year,\u201d Ivan remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
