He may be just eight years old, but he\u2019s already amassed a long list of credits \u2013 on stage&nbsp;<em>and<\/em>&nbsp;on screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might remember him from&nbsp;<em>Fifty and Fabulous<\/em>, a drama serial that aired on Mediacorp Channel 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no mistaking his sunshiny smile in advertisements for the likes of Singtel, Lazada and Bobo Fishball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s even shared the stage with Taiwanese theatre veteran Irene Luo in&nbsp;<em>Super Mommy (\u6211\u7684\u5988\u5988\u662fENY)<\/em>, a musical that played at the Resorts World Sentosa Theatre for over a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI love it all!\u201d Estovan proclaims during a break from recording the cast album of&nbsp;<em>A $ingapore Carol<\/em>. \u201cActing, singing, dancing \u2013 even hosting!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s right \u2013 Estovan has also hosted live events, such as the 2018 ASEAN gala dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might sound a little overwhelming, but it\u2019s evident that Estovan loves every second of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, he loves performing so much that he\u2019s had to cut a deal with his mom, Estina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy mother said I can go and perform, but only if I go to school!\u201d he confesses. &#8220;She told me that school is equally important, so I have to manage my studies well too.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Not Just Glitz and Glamour&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ast-oembed-container\" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe title=\"Chinese New Year 2018\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WYNwZQBIuXA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption>Estovan will win your heart in this Chinese New Year ad for Lazada<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Juggling his school work with his performance schedule can be challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before arriving at the recording studio today, Estovan had to complete a series of revision papers in English, Chinese and maths. Over the past week, he\u2019s sat for his oral and listening comprehension exams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, he goes for classes regularly to improve as a singer and dancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also has to study his lines for upcoming projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy mother goes through my lines with me every week,\u201d says Estovan. \u201cAnd once it\u2019s almost show-time, like a week before, we\u2019ll go through my lines every day until I\u2019m familiar with them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a performer, Estovan also has to grapple with stage fright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m more nervous when performing on stage and live,\u201d he confesses. \u201cBecause, when filming, you can always re-take if you make a mistake.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/wr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Estovan2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/wr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Estovan2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/wr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Estovan2-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/wr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Estovan2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption>All smiles in the recording studio for A $ingapore Carol!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Estovan discovered his love of performing five years ago, when he was just three years old and still in nursery school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI loved singing and dancing with my friends on stage!\u201d he remembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s one of the reasons why he\u2019s so excited to be a part of&nbsp;<em>A $ingapore Carol<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like all of WILD RICE\u2019s annual holiday musicals, the show features a host of young actors from the ages of 5 to 12, working alongside an adult cast featuring some of Singapore\u2019s best actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSometimes, there are other kids in the shows I do \u2013 but only a few,\u201d Estovan points out. \u201cThere are lots of kids in&nbsp;<em>A $ingapore Carol<\/em>, so I can make friends with them!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s also excited for the opportunity to grow as a performer, since he\u2019ll be working with some of the best theatre-makers in Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI watched&nbsp;<em>Mama White Snake<\/em>&nbsp;last year and it was so creative!\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s also why I wanted to be a part of this show \u2013 so I can learn new techniques!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s already picked up some tips on singing from music director Elaine Chan, as well as new dance steps from choreographer Andy Benjamin Cai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If he had to use one word to sum up his WILD RICE experience thus far?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFun!\u201d he says, with a huge grin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you can tell he means it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Catch the FIRST STAGE Kids, including Estovan, in&nbsp;<em>A $ingapore Carol<\/em>&nbsp;at the Victoria Theatre from 23 November to 15 December 2018!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At just eight years old, Estovan Reizo Cheah has been performing for more than half his life.
