{"id":649,"date":"2018-10-12T10:17:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-12T02:17:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/wr\/wr\/?p=649"},"modified":"2019-12-09T17:38:45","modified_gmt":"2019-12-09T09:38:45","slug":"open-call-to-playwrights-for-singapore-theatre-festival-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/glutenfreepleasure.com\/__proxy_domain\/www.wildrice.com.sg\/open-call-to-playwrights-for-singapore-theatre-festival-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Call to Playwrights for Singapore Theatre Festival 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are now planning for the 7th installment of the Festival, which will be held at WILD RICE\u2019s new theatre at Funan in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When programming the Festival, we always ask ourselves: \u2018Why this play?\u2019 and \u2018Why now?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for works that speak to the contemporary moment; which address under-explored issues and feature under-represented communities; and which ask sharp and difficult questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please email a copy of your completed full-length script to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:submissions@wildrice.com.sg\">submissions@wildrice.com.sg<\/a>. The final play should be at least 60 minutes long. We accept submissions written in any of Singapore\u2019s four official languages: English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your play is considered for the Festival, we will offer you WILD RICE\u2019s resources for developing the script, which will include workshops, readings and working closely with a dramaturg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for submissions is&nbsp;<strong>31 January 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About The Singapore Theatre Festival<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Singapore Theatre Festival is a biennial festival of new writing, curated by artistic directors Ivan Heng and Alfian Sa\u2019at. Since its inception in 2006, the Festival has presented ground-breaking and resonant works, such as documentary play&nbsp;<em>Cooling-Off Day<\/em>, the 100-year-spanning&nbsp;<em>HOTEL<\/em>&nbsp;and the heartrending&nbsp;<em>Supervision<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While known for showcasing new works by established playwrights such as Ovidia Yu (<em>The Silence of the Kittens<\/em>) and Huzir Sulaiman (<em>The Weight of Silk on Skin<\/em>), the Festival has also provided a platform for aspiring and emerging playwrights.
