What\u2019s the one thing you have to do before you go on\nstage?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some kind of physical\nwarm-up. For The Importance of Being\nEarnest<\/em>, I\u2019m doing stretches, because we do a lot of haughty posing in this\nplay! I think it\u2019s meant to reflect the repressed Victorian society the\ncharacters come from. So I get quite sore if I don\u2019t stretch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not usually part of my\nritual, but for this play, I also do vocal warm-ups. Oscar Wilde\u2019s lines are\nbrilliantly constructed, but are often also quite long and convoluted. So I go\non stage before each show, and speak the more difficult sections out loud. Just\nso the actual performance isn\u2019t the first time I\u2019ve said them in the theatre\neach day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What keeps you up at night?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Facebook post I have just\nread on my tablet, even though I promised myself I would put it down and go to\nsleep. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, how capitalism will\nkill us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us about the theatrical experience that changed\nyour life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Theatre is such an involved\nart form, that I feel it\u2019s rare to be part of something that doesn\u2019t change me\nin some way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I\u2019ll share one that has some resonance at the moment: watching Ivan Heng and Daniel York Loh in Kiss of the Spider Woman<\/em> in 1998, and thinking: \u201cAsian actors, as leads, working in Singapore, in English. It\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
