Since the beginning of history, Chinese have been slaughtered, enslaved, pilfered, tortured and oppressed by our own kind. Under the hands of our people, we have been subjected to pains unbearable to humans. If you take a closer look at each and every atrocity throughout history, you would have thought that we live in hell. (Taken from "Random Talks After Recovering from Sickness" 1934)
Patriotic individuals like to say that Chinese are peace-loving. What I don't understand is, if we Chinese so love peace why are there war after war within our country? Perhaps such a saying should be corrected: Chinese are only peace-loving when it comes to foreigners. (Taken from "Further Comments", 1925)
Unfortunately, Chinese tend to show their savage sides to lambs, and vice versa, their meek sides to predators. Being capable of showing our ferocity doesn't make us any less of a cowardly race. I don't think we need to add on anything else to save China. Our youth just need to reverse these two characteristics passed down from the ancient time: be predatory when confronted by a monster, and be just as meek when facing another lamb.
