Special Care Dentistry

2026/10/06

Some individuals may require a more tailored approach to dental care due to physical disabilities, medical conditions, developmental disorders, cognitive impairments, or behavioural challenges that make routine dental treatment more difficult.

Special Care Dentistry focuses on providing holistic and accessible oral healthcare for patients with additional needs. Our patients range from young adults with disabilities to older adults with complex medical conditions. Through individualised care plans and close collaboration with caregivers and healthcare professionals, we aim to help patients achieve and maintain good oral health, improve their quality of life, and prevent future oral disease.

Our specialists are trained in:

  • Behaviour management techniques
  • Modified examination and rational treatment protocols
  • Coordination with caregivers, medical professionals and social workers
  • Communicating strategies for each patient’s level of understanding and comfort
  • Planning and preparing for additional sedation and anaesthesia in a hospital setting when appropriate
