Frequently asked questions about UOI Travel Insurance
No. UOI requires you to buy your UniTravel policy before your trip starts, and the policy must cover the entire duration of your trip. All trips must also start and end in Singapore.
It's best to buy your policy as soon as you've booked your trip. Trip cancellation cover only applies if you bought the policy before you became aware of anything that could lead to your trip being cancelled.
How you cancel depends on the type of plan you have:
-
Single Trip plan: You can cancel at any time before your trip starts by giving UOI written notice.
-
Annual Multi-Trip plan: You can cancel at any time by giving UOI 30 days' written notice by registered letter.
To request a cancellation, contact UOI at 6222 7733 or contactus@uoi.com.sg. UOI's customer service is open Monday to Thursday from 8.45am to 5.45pm, and Friday from 8.45am to 4.45pm (closed on weekends and public holidays). See the refund policy below for how much you'll get back.
-
Single Trip plan: If you cancel before your trip starts, UOI refunds your premium minus a S$25 cancellation fee. UOI doesn't refund amounts under S$10, so if your premium is below S$35, you won't receive a refund. No refund is given once your trip has started or if you've made a claim.
Annual Multi-Trip plan: Refunds are based on how long your policy has been in force, provided no claim has been made:
When you cancel
Refund of annual premium
Within 90 days
50%
91 to 182 days
30%
183 days or more
No refund
Your UniTravel policy is automatically extended by up to 14 days, at no extra cost, if your return to Singapore is delayed for reasons beyond your control due to:
-
An accident or serious illness (including COVID-19) you suffer while overseas
-
An unavoidable delay to the scheduled public transport you're travelling on
-
Compulsory quarantine (including for COVID-19) ordered by local authorities while you're overseas
The event causing the delay must itself be covered under your policy.
UniTravel's policy wording only provides for these automatic extensions. If you're planning to stay longer for any other reason, contact UOI at 6222 7733 before your policy ends to check your options. Note that a single trip can last up to 185 days, and each trip on an Annual Multi-Trip plan can last up to 90 days.
-
UOI's worldwide plans (Area 3 for Single Trip, Area 5 for Annual Multi-Trip) exclude the following countries:
-
Afghanistan
-
Democratic Republic of Congo
-
Iran
-
Iraq
-
Libya
-
Nepal
-
North Korea
-
Somalia
-
Sudan
-
Syria
-
Yemen
You're also not covered while transiting through any of these countries. Tibet is excluded from plans covering China.
Countries outside the area you selected aren't covered either. For example, an Area 1 (ASEAN) plan won't cover you if you travel to Japan.

Why choose UOI Travel Insurance
UOI's UniTravel plans come in three tiers (Value, Plus and Pro), so you can match your cover to your trip and budget. All three include COVID-19 cover at no extra cost, emergency medical evacuation, and trip cancellation cover that extends to frequent flyer points used to buy your airline tickets.
UniTravel is available as a Single Trip or Annual Multi-Trip plan, with individual and family options. Families travelling together can share higher aggregate limits, and children under 18 (or up to 23 if studying full-time) can be covered on a Family plan.
