At the core of the Power Plant Controller solution is the u-control system, combined with the open operating system u-OS and the integrated Power Plant Controller library. It is component certified and handles key control functions, including the implementation of external setpoints, active and reactive power control for grid stability, as well as monitoring and ensuring the safe operation of the power plant.

A Power Plant Controller controls and monitors the feed-in from generation plants into the electricity grid. It ensures compliance with the grid operator’s specifications and supports grid stability by regulating active and reactive power. At the same time, the PPC coordinates the interaction between photovoltaic, wind energy and battery storage systems.
There is no difference between the terms ‘Park controller’ and ‘Power Plant Controller’. Both refer to the same technical component.
Unfortunately, no. As every system has different requirements, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, Weidmüller’s modular system allows for the custom configuration of a suitable Power Plant Controller solution.
Requirements vary depending on local regulations and grid codes. In general, medium and large-scale renewable energy installations such as photovoltaic plants, wind farms, battery storage systems, and hybrid energy projects often require a Power Plant Controller to ensure compliant grid integration and operation. Existing systems that are due to be expanded must also be retrofitted with a Power Plant Controller in most cases. It should be noted that existing installations are covered by grandfathering provisions.
A Power Plant Controller enables generation plants to be connected to the electricity grid and operated in accordance with the relevant standards. In many countries, grid codes and utility regulations require the use of a certified Power Plant Controller for medium and large-scale generation plants.
