What should I bring to my notary public appointment?

Accepted Answer

Bring the original documents and your NRIC or passport to your notary public appointment at 135 Middle Road, #05-11 Bylands Building, Singapore 188975. If you are signing a document, do not sign it beforehand. You sign in front of the Notary Public, who then witnesses your signature. Payment is made at the office afterwards.

Question 2

Apostille or e-Apostille: which should I choose?

The Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) issues the physical (hardcopy) apostille. After your notary appointment, collect your notarised documents from our office first, then collect the apostille yourself from SAL. The SAL fee is already included in your fee. SAL issues an e-Apostille digitally instead, so there is nothing to collect and you send it to your end recipient. Confirm that your overseas recipient accepts an e-Apostille before choosing it. Not every document needs an apostille.

Question 3

Do I need to attend for a certified true copy of a digital document?

Accepted Answer

For digitally verifiable documents, such as an ACRA Business Profile, an ACRA Certificate of Incorporation or a Singpass-verified document, you may not need to come to the office. Book a slot, email your documents to info@law.com.sg and choose your identity verification method. This applies only to digitally verifiable certified true copies, and only after we confirm. Witnessing of signatures always requires the signer to attend in person at our office or by an outcall within Singapore. Remote, Zoom or video witnessing is not offered.

Which documents can a Notary Public in Singapore notarise?

Accepted Answer

Common notarial work includes witnessing signatures on powers of attorney, declarations and affidavits for use overseas, company resolutions and property or bank documents, and certifying true copies of passports, degree certificates, marriage or birth certificates and ACRA records. Documents for use within Singapore, such as a statutory declaration or an affidavit for a Singapore court, usually need a Commissioner for Oaths instead.

Who will notarise my documents?

Eben Ong, Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths, an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore since 1992 and Managing Partner of Loh Eben Ong LLP, notarises your documents. The firm dates from 1994 and regularly handles notarisation, certified true copies and apostilles.

Do I need an appointment, and what happens afterwards?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Notary public appointments with Loh Eben Ong LLP are by booking only, Monday to Friday. Choose a slot on book.law.com.sg and the booking is confirmed by email once approved. Straightforward witnessing and certified true copies are completed at the appointment. If an apostille is needed, the Notary Public issues the notarial certificate through the SAL portal after the appointment, and you then collect the physical apostille from SAL or receive the e-Apostille digitally. Bookings can be changed at least 4 hours in advance via Manage Your Bookings.
