Our director Mark Lee was invited to speak on MDD Forensic Accountants Litigation Series Podcasts (Taking the Stand).
MDD is a global forensic accounting firm with offices in London, Dubai, New York, São Paulo, Sydney, Singapore, and Toronto amongst many others, specialising in business valuations, shareholder disputes and economic damage quantification.
Along with Jerome McDonagh Msc, FCCA, CFE, CVA, MAE and Ben Lovell of MDD, the session covered the following where our Mr Lee shared the following views:-
1. Shareholder activism — disputes are increasingly about influence, not just ownership. Shareholder relationships can deteriorate into serious governance disputes and the early intervention of forensic accountants and valuation experts can be a game changer.
2. Board strategy — get ahead of the dispute before it becomes litigation. A strong governance strategy is fundamentally about getting the “top line” in order which will allow the “bottom line” to follow.
3. Corporate governance — good governance isn’t just saying the right things but ultimately doing the right things.
4. AI adoption — judgment remains the differentiator. Lawyers who learn to use AI effectively will have an advantage. AI can “read the lines”but lawyers must learn to read in between the lines and to move from a value-added approach to a value creation client relationship.
