Budget Direct Insurance goes grungy in new office design

It is inspired by the garage of an auto-mechanic.

Designed by Kyoob-id, an interior company based in Singapore, Budget Direct Insurance’s new customer service centre adopts an open and vibrant workspace that evokes industrial and grungy vibes.

“Budget Insurance Group is an established insurance brand with a dynamic presence globally, hence the objective is to create a space that would portray the identity and culture of the global company as well as a place where the staff can feel at one with,” said Lim Weiling, designer of Kyoob-id.

Kyoob-id was inspired by the grungy aesthetics of an auto-mechanic’s working space, which is primarily the garage, and felt that a design based on this look would leave a unique and interesting impression on customers. In addition, the pantry area is styled with fun, cosy, and lively aesthetics, drawing staff to use the areas not just during the break time but for causal, informal meetings and discussions.

When asked about the initial problems they have encountered, they talked about the older building’s uneven flooring. Aside from it, the building is located beside the main road, hence the noise from the traffic could pose disruption to the office operations.

This was resolved in the spatial planning stage where the customer centre is placed away from the main traffic. Acoustic furniture and accessories were also used.

The office is located in Singapore Shopping Centre 190, Clemenceau Avenue.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
