What are the most popular cuisines amongst Singaporeans?

More than half (51%) of Singaporeans consider themselves meat eaters.

Chinese emerged as the most popular cuisine amongst Singaporeans, particularly for meat eaters, flexitarians, and vegetarians or vegans.

According to YouGov, the majority of Singaporeans (51%)  are meat-eaters and only a few (5%)  adopt a fully plant-based diet (vegetarian) that may exclude all animal products, such as eggs and milk (vegan).
Meanwhile, about a fifth (18%) see themselves as flexitarians who eat a primarily plant-based diet, but still occasionally consume meat and fish.

Amongst pescetarians, which is only 3% of the Singaporean consumer population, Chinese cuisine only ranked third.

Pescetarians’ top choice was Japanese cuisine, followed by Thai. Meat eaters and flexitarians ranked Japanese cuisine second, whilst vegetarians/vegans ranked it third.

Thai, meanwhile, was the third most popular cuisine amongst meat eaters and flexitarians.

Vegans or vegetarians, on the other hand, aren’t as fond of Thai cuisine, ranking it sixth after Italian and Korean.

Indian is second most popular among vegetarians/vegans but ranks fifth to eighth among other diet followers.

French and Vietnamese are much more popular among pescetarians, where it takes fourth and fifth spot.

Amongst other diets, French rounds out the top ten, while Vietnamese comes eighth among meat eaters but is not within the top 10 for primarily/fully plant-based eaters.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
