Singapore wage council names new chairman

The ministry added that it had accepted Seah’s request to relinquish his appointment.

The Ministry of Manpower said today that Hsieh Fu Hua will take over as chairman of Singapore’s National Wages Council (NWC) for the 2026/27 session, replacing Peter Seah, who has stepped down from the role for personal reasons.

The ministry added that it had accepted Seah’s request to relinquish his appointment. Seah had served as NWC chairman since 2015.

Hsieh was previously appointed deputy chairman of the NWC for the 2026/27 session and will now lead the council’s upcoming tripartite discussions on wage issues.

Hsieh currently chairs the National University of Singapore Board of Trustees and serves as a director on the GIC board. He has previously been president of the National Council of Social Service, chief executive officer of Singapore Exchange and president of Temasek Holdings.

The ministry said Hsieh’s experience in bringing together different stakeholders and building consensus would be valuable in leading the NWC’s wage deliberations.

The government also thanked Seah for his years of service, including his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the NWC helped maintain agreement amongst the government, employers and workers on wage policies.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
