78% of Singaporean organisations have gaps in data protection: report

Singaporean organisations have a gap between how fast they can recover data versus how fast they need that process done.

With data protection becoming a greater issue as the COVID-19 pandemic has been forcing businesses to go digital, a study reported that most Singaporeans still have gaps in protection and backup.

Cloud data management company Veeam's latest Data Protection Report found that 78% of Singaporean organisations have a "reality gap" between the need to recover applications and data quickly, and how quickly they can actually recover with their current programs.

Almost 74% of Singaporean organisations also have a "protection gap", or a gap between how much they can afford to lose after an outage and how frequently they back up important data. The most common IT outages experienced by the organisations surveyed are cybersecurity events and server hardware outages, at 59% and 58%, respectively.

Because of the pandemic, 73% of Singaporean organisations have accelerated their digital transformation initiatives. Of those that have adopted strong data management platforms, 30% found their IT infrastructure teams became more efficient, 72% experienced faster response times to problems, and 33% reported less instances of data loss.

When it comes to backing up data, 27% of organizations use cloud-based methods.

Singaporeans anticipate changing customer needs and economic uncertainty in the coming 12 months when it comes to digital transformation.

Veeam's research had a respondent pool of 242 Singaporean IT organisations out of the 3,000 surveyed worldwide.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
