Koh urges collective effort to secure Singapore’s cyberspace

He reiterated that cybersecurity requires a sustained, collective effort.

Cyber threats are expected to increase in both scale and sophistication, posing challenges to public trust in digital systems, according to David Koh, Commissioner of Cybersecurity and Chief Executive of the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA).

In a statement featured in the 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), Koh emphasised that despite progress, significant work remains. “Cybersecurity practices have yet to be widely adopted by the public and organisations in Singapore,” he noted, adding that the country, like many others, is facing a shortage of skilled professionals. “We do not have enough cybersecurity professionals to go around.”

Since its formation in 2015, the CSA has implemented the national cybersecurity strategy, introduced legislative updates, and developed industry partnerships and guidelines.

However, Koh reiterated that cybersecurity requires a sustained, collective effort. “Cybersecurity is a team marathon with no finish line. We need to keep running together, year after year.”

He expressed appreciation to stakeholders across sectors and called for continued cooperation. “Let us forge deeper collaboration and reaffirm our shared commitment to building a resilient and trusted cyberspace,” he said.

Koh’s remarks reflect broader concerns in the cybersecurity community about the growing complexity of threats and the need for coordinated responses.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
