New Singapore Standard for aerospace 3D printing launched

The standard provides a comprehensive framework for Filament Layer Manufacturing (FLM).

Singapore has launched its first national standard for additive manufacturing in aerospace.

The new Singapore Standard (SS 708), titled “Additive Manufacturing for Aerospace – Filament Layer Manufacturing Process Specifications”, was introduced by the Singapore Manufacturing Federation – Standards Development Organisation and Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) at the inter airport Southeast Asia 2025 event.

The standard provides a comprehensive framework for Filament Layer Manufacturing, a polymer-based 3D printing process used to produce aerospace-grade components such as lightweight structural parts and specialised maintenance tools.

SS 708 outlines stringent guidelines for hardware validation, material specifications, quality control, and operational workflows, ensuring consistency and safety in critical aviation applications.

Local firms can use SS 708 to improve turnaround times in MRO operations and expand their role in the global aerospace supply chain, as the standard complements internationally recognised frameworks from ASTM and ISO.

It also provides a pathway for firms to scale globally while meeting rigorous safety and performance standards.

The standard was developed with input from a working group comprising regulators, industry players, and research partners, including the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster, Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore), and ST Engineering.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
