Singaporeans express low concern on AI fraud in travel sector

Willingness to verify identity on sharing economy platforms such as holiday rentals has fallen by 11 percentage points.

Singaporeans report the lowest levels of concern globally about AI-powered fraud in the travel industry, according to Jumio’s 2025 Online Identity Study.

Just 37% of Singaporean consumers say they lack confidence in the travel sector’s ability to protect them from identity fraud, compared to 44% of consumers worldwide and 55% in the United States.

The study highlighted varying levels of trust in digital security across markets, particularly in the context of increased travel activity and growing use of online platforms.

In Singapore, where digital adoption is high, consumers appear slightly less cautious this year despite growing awareness of AI-related threats.

Whilst 78% of Singaporeans say they are willing to spend more time on identity verification when using travel platforms, this marks a 6% drop from 2024.

Similarly, willingness to verify identity on sharing economy platforms such as holiday rentals has fallen by 11 percentage points — from 85% last year to 74% in 2025. Globally, willingness to invest time in identity verification remained stable or declined only slightly.

The study also found that 74% of Singaporean respondents view AI-powered fraud as a greater threat to personal security than traditional forms of identity theft. This aligns with global sentiment, where 69% of consumers expressed the same view.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
