Singlife, NHG Health target high-volume digestive claims

The insurer and the healthcare group will work together to enhance specialist pathways and deliver appropriate care.

Singlife has partnered with NHG Health to improve access to specialist care for its customers and explore new healthcare models focused on patient outcomes, recovery and cost efficiency.

Under the partnership, NHG Health will join Singlife Care Collab, a health services hub that connects customers with healthcare providers.

The collaboration will initially focus on digestive health. Singlife’s Integrated Shield customers have access to specialist digestive care across Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Woodlands Hospital, including the newly opened Digestive Health Centre at Woodlands Hospital.

The centre provides gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, covering care from prevention and screening through diagnosis, treatment, recovery and follow-up.

Digestive health is a significant area of claims for Singlife. Digestive scopes account for close to 20% of Singlife Shield claims by volume.

Colorectal cancer is also the second most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst men and women in Singapore, with close to 13,000 new cases recorded between 2019 and 2023.

Singlife and NHG Health will also explore value-based care models that place greater emphasis on recovery and patient outcomes.

The initiatives will draw on NHG Health’s experience with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), which has helped reduce hospital stays and complications whilst generating cost savings.

The two organisations will also work towards bundled and fixed-rate models for selected procedures, including total knee replacement surgery.

Helen Shen, Group head of Products at Singlife, said customers need support beyond insurance coverage, including guidance and access to healthcare partners.

Adjunct Associate Professor Joe Hau, CEO of Woodlands Hospital, said the partnership would combine clinical expertise with financing perspectives to improve patient outcomes and healthcare sustainability.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
