3 in 4 S'poreans willing to embrace 'GOAT' mindset on their next trip

'GOAT' means 'no regrets' style of travel.

A recent survey by Expedia revealed that 73%, or close to three out of four Singaporeans, look forward to spending their next vacation with the "Greatest of All Trips" or "GOAT" mindset.

This mindset means that these travellers will apply a "no regrets" style of travel. Characteristics that make up this mindset, according to the report, include immersing themselves in culture, splurging on experiences and excitement.

The respondents' reasons for doing so include craving the feelings of contentment and mental well-being (41%), excitement and exhilaration (38%), and gratification (37%).

Over 500 travellers from Singapore were surveyed for this report, with over 12 countries and 12,000 participants taking part.

“As travellers start to build their trust in travel again after a long period of constraints and limitations, travel in 2022 will be about embracing the GOAT mindset, to maximise the richness and meaning from their overseas experiences,” added Lavinia Rajaram, Asia Head of Communications, Expedia Group Brands.

Also included in the report were five travel trends expected to shape Singaporean travellers in 2022.

These travel trends are scrapping the schedule (28%), splurging on themselves (43%), immersing themselves to discover (32%), seeking out sensations (38%), and unfiltered enjoyment (41%) of respondents affirming these trends.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

Reaching the people who run Asia's businesses is harder than it used to be.

Inboxes are crowded. Attention is short. The executives you most want to reach — the founders, CFOs, and operators who actually move budgets — are the hardest to find through the usual channels. If you're building a company, a category, or a reputation, you already know this.

We've spent twenty years building the room they read. Singapore Business Review is where senior decision makers in Singapore and across Southeast Asia come for business coverage they can't get elsewhere — in print, online, and in person at the summits and roundtables we host across seven markets.

If you have something these readers should know about — a point of view worth publishing, a product worth their attention, an event worth their time — we'd like to hear what you're trying to do.
